Today Huntington Bank proudly announced its exciting new role in tall ships festivals throughout the Great Lakes. Huntington Bank is the new title sponsor for “Huntington Harborfest Muskegon” and “Huntington Tall Ships Toledo” and returning title sponsor for “Huntington Cleveland Harborfest.”

“We believe in regionalism, so to take the lead in making Harborfest something special for the Great Lakes is exciting. And, to bring together the communities of West Michigan to celebrate this international spectacle is going to be very gratifying,” said Jim Dunlap, President of Huntington’s West Michigan Operations.

The Muskegon event, formerly titled, “Tall Ships Challenge Muskegon” takes place August 8-10 this summer, with three days of historic tall ship tours, entertainment and sailing excursions. Muskegon port organizers have released names of the three headlining tall ships for Huntington Harborfest Muskegon. These ships promise to wow visitors with their sheer size, international significance and timeless grace:

Barque Europa, a three mast rigged ship from the Netherlands that was built in 1911
S.V. Caledonia, a 235+ square-rigged barquentine, the largest sailing ship built in Canada in the last 100 years. The ship will be launched for the first time in late May 2003.
INS Tarangini is the official embassy vessel for the country of India.

Roger Andersen, Chairman of Tall Ships Muskegon (the organizing board for Huntington Harborfest Muskegon) says, “We are very pleased to have Huntington Bank as the title sponsor for our event. This has become a regional event and more so as Huntington Harborfest Muskegon, made possible by the significant support from Huntington. We especially thank Jim Dunlap, Tim Taylor, Muskegon Mayor Steve Warmington, Grand Rapids Mayor John Logie and Holland Mayor Albert McGeehan for their support.”

The last tall ship event held in Muskegon drew as many as 300,000 visitors to see the spectacle of 20 historic tall ships docked at Heritage Landing on Muskegon Lake in August of 2001. Huntington Harborfest Muskegon, August 8-10 2003, promises to be an even greater success.
