MUSKEGON HEIGHTS - The Lakeshore Launch Pad
has been re-christened The Whetstone Project Business
Accelerator.
It was decided
to rename the business incubator after it moved earlier
this month from the lower level of the Hume Building
in downtown Muskegon to a warehouse-style space on
West Sherman Boulevard in Muskegon Heights.
"The
new name comes from Fluid. "The ad agency came
up with a list of names and we went with The Whetstone
Project," said Muskegon Area First Director of
Technology Initiatives Gary Nelund. "A whetstone
is a tool used to sharpen a knife. This business accelerator
is place to sharpen your business."
The structure
that houses the incubator - an old Norge appliance
factory - was christened the Whetstone Building.
One Lakeshore Launch Pad business, Gold Shield Transportation,
has set up shop at The Whetstone Project location.
Two more businesses will have offices at the site
by early August. Talon Aero is one of the two new
tenants. The company was founded in 2002 and specializes
in the areas of spare parts, engines and auxiliary
power units.
