Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC) today announced
that it will introduce jet service on one of its daily
flights between Detroit and Muskegon, Mich.
Beginning June 10, Northwest
will replace one of three daily flights on the 34-passenger
Saab 340 turbo-prop aircraft with the Canadair Regional
Jet (CRJ) operated by Northwest Airlink partner Pinnacle
Airlines Corp.
The 44- or 50-passenger CRJ features a spacious cabin
with comfortable two-by-two leather seating and other
cabin amenities similar to larger jets, such as overhead
bins, a galley, lavatory, and an efficient climate
control system to ensure passenger comfort.
"We
look forward to providing jet service to Muskegon
County Airport in time for the busy summer season,"
said Tom Bach, vice president of market planning and
Airlink. "Northwest Airlines appreciates the
support of the community to bring about this upgraded
service."
"This
is a huge step for the Muskegon County Airport,"
said Bill Gill, chairman of the Muskegon County Transportation
Committee. "The Muskegon County Board of Commissioners
is confident that the upgraded jet service will improve
the transportation options for all West Michigan residents
and is the first step in providing better air service
for the entire community." "This is a service
that the Muskegon area will appreciate," added
U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra, (R-Mich.) "It will
provide a new option for comfortable travel in a growing
community in need of upgraded air service."
The upgraded
flight is now open for sale through www.nwa.com ,
Northwest Airlines Reservations at 1-800-225-2525
or through travel agencies.
