Manufacturing In Muskegon County Parallels National Trend
Muskegon County Manufacturers’ report increased sales matching information contained in The Wall Street Journal’s article of June 2, 2004.

Over the past six weeks the Muskegon Area First has been making site visits with Muskegon County manufacturers. Of the 18 visited to date, 14 or a whopping 78% reported increased sales over the same period last year. Several reported recorded sales for a particular month or for the first quarter. The Wall Street Journal reported similar reports in their June 2, 2004 article that reported manufacturers logging an increase in growth and jobs. The WSJ states that the Institute for Supply Management reported the May index of manufacturing activity rose to 62.8, from 62.4 in April, marking a 12 consecutive months of growth. While Muskegon manufacturers are enjoying increasing sales, hiring has been cautious to see if the trend will sustain itself.
